The iPhone – and its users and developers – have been waiting for this for quite some time now: the iPhone SDK. The SDK (software development kit) allows developers to quickly and easily write iPhone applications for download suited for the iPhone’s hardware. The iPhone SDK will also allow seamless integration with current applications, maintaining a common interface “look and feel”.
The beta announcement of the iPhone SDK with download predictably caused a storm in the Apple community and generated over 100,000 downloads of the kit itself and over 1 million views of Apple’s video of the event. This fanatical fervor succeeded in crashing Apple’s servers. Whoops.
Application developers can now start to plan their applications and count their money: while the iPhone SDK apps isn’t officially released yet (and there is no word on when it will be) this is the time that work begins.
Watch out for a flood of classic games, useful iPhone apps, and totally useless software.
