Salvia Divinorum is a legal hallucinogenic that you may be hearing quite a lot about in coming months. Why? Because the time has come where politicians and pressure groups are starting to get on their high horses. Some states have already banned the drug and others, such as California, are starting the long process of passing legislation through the state system.
Salvia is not a new drug – native Americans have used it since before the Europeans colonized the land – and its use as a hallucinogenic has long been accepted. Still it managed to keep relatively well under the radar until quite recently. So much so that according to Dr. Charles Grob, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, little is known about Salvia and its effects – for good or bad – on the body.
Whatever the arguments for and against making Salvia illegal, I am sure that the politicians will find some way to attempt to make ‘moral’ gains on the back of legislation banning it.
