There have been some interesting misconceptions about the Ares Lite filesharing program that I would dearly like to address.
Ares Lite was first developed in 2002 and was, at the time, a groundbreaking piece of software. Not only was the program well designed and incredibly useful, but the resources used were minimal compared to its bigger brother Ares Galaxy.
At that time a number of web entrepreneurs decided to make some quick money by bundling new versions of Ares with nasty software like Adware or spyware (the makers of Ares Destiny, among others, are still working with this model). This was not what the users wanted and, after removing the offending software, they would begin the search for a ‘clean’ version of Ares.
It was a common misconception that Ares Lite was ‘Lite’ because it was not bundled with the unwanted malware. While it was a clean version of Ares, this is not what the ‘Lite’ referred to; neither where all non-Lite versions bundled with spyware!
Now, just as then, there are many versions of Ares (like Ares Ultra, Ares Ultimate and Ares Vista (along with the original Ares Galaxy)) that are clean and may well be a better choice than the aging Ares Lite.
