A few years ago, when I first visited Phuket, I found the Phuket nightlife lacking. There was plenty there to keep me busy but I just found the variety in the type of clubs available wasn’t anywhere near as progressive as that found in Bangkok. Indeed it’s still not quite at the Bangkok level but the Phuket nightlife has improved immeasurably since I last came. You can now find everything from Thai indie music through to Western rock and onto more modern club genres, such as breaks and drum n bass.

The mainstay of Phuket nightlife is still the classic Thai style club with cover band pumping out the local and western classics all night long. Still here too, albeit confined mainly to the tourist areas, are the clubs catering for chart pop, dance and hip hop.

For the seasoned clubber this will likely not satisfy and it is the new breed of club that will really pique the interest. New to the Phuket nightlife are the bars and clubs that put music before catering to tourists or locals specifically. These places cater to genres of music ranging from house and breaks to electro and techno and most definitely a welcome addition to the existing club real estate.
