Salvia Divinorum is a very potent hallucinogenic plant which originates in Mexico; the plant’s use as a hallucinogen is legal across almost all Countries in the world, and almost all States in the US (where it gains the most positive and negative attention from the media and from legislators). But Salvia Divinorum’s main active ingredient, Salvinorin A, is more than just a hip hoppy trippy thing. It could do some serious good, too.

Salvinorin A might eventually lead to new drugs that could be used to treat Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and other diseases, say scientists. Thomas Prisinzano of the University of Iowa tells us “The bottom line is, we really don’t know enough and we need to know more”. One thing that is interesting is that studies of Salvia Divinorum might one day lead to other drugs capable of fighting Alzheimer’s and Schizophrenia. Now there’s something to celebrate. Hurrah for Salvia Divinorum.
